Young and Naive..?!
"Young and Naive"- The ultimate excuse for committing a crime in Sweden - and getting away with murder...and at times espionage!

You commit premeditated murder, killing a 16 year old girl and what happens? Virtually nothing, if you are 16 years old and committed the murder in Sweden!
To murder a fifteen year old girl and end up spending one year and eight months in prison is obscene by any standards. It sends a message that life is worthless, and that premeditated - note - premeditated murder is not such a big deal if the murderers are 16 years of age because, they are so "young and naive". The court by a Mr. Paul Arnell said: "Leave the youngsters alone "

"This case is about young people, almost children," he added.

The Swedish evening rag "Aftonbladet" had an article about what would happen to the two murderers for the next twenty months while they serve out their "sentence". To give you an idea, the article started: "No computer, no mobile phone" [for the next twenty months].
Are you kidding me? Therese Johansson Rojo - the victim , yes she had a name, a life, and a future and friends and family and dreams and hopes . She deserves better than this and so does everybody else in Sweden, regardless of age. Citizens in that country should demand that if their child or they themselves for that matter are murdered, then the murderer should go to jail for a considerable time for the sake of deterrent, out of safety concerns and, justice. To sentence a full fledged murderer to 20 months is NOT OK! To be young and naive is NOT an excuse, which leads me to the next subject:

Jan Guillou, a Swedish writer and a political know-it-all, got caught the other day for having been spying on Sweden for the Soviet intelligence agency KGB, this after previously classified documents had been released. So what was his excuse - you guessed it: "Young and Naive". That he was 22 and at the same time busy investigating a secret spin-off of the Swedish secret service and finally exposing it - (on who’s orders, one wonders...) - now THAT is perfectly fine! Besides, the time for prosecution of the crime has expired! Yes, that is the Law in Sweden. I am sure Mr. Guillou is pleased to learn that no-body will take his computer and mobile phone away from him, not even for twenty months.

Finally, Minister Bildt; Don’t even try to use "Young and Naive" when explaining years from now what mental melt-down lead you to close down the Consulate General in New York. We no longer believe in that particular defense, rather we have already figured out that you did this to further you chances to a top Europan position - You have now shown the other Europeans that you can be "trusted" . Let it be known that you look to European interests first and American interests second, if at all. "Et tu Brutus"

So now what?
A new day a new bail out. Today it's Citibank, and as usual the "deal" was made in the darkness of the week-end. We are getting deeper and deeper in debt and no end in sight whatsoever.
"Immigration", the very word is by now worth ruffly what the Citibank share was worth before the bailout. Well, for the uninformed that happens to be $3.50 down from $27.50 a year ago. Today, after a nice infusion of $20 billion, the stock rose by 58% to about $7.50.
My phylosophy is that the importance of immigration issues correlates to the dow index and that right now we are in sub zero territory and that the only thing that can save us is an "infusion" from the new administartion in the form of a real immigration reform - which can only be a reality when or if the economy through some miracle will bouns back to a health from it's near death experience. Or??

Uncertainty
To advise on immigration and immigration rules these days can be challeging. To discuss the future of immigration and immigration law in the Unitted States is even worse.

Even though we know that both McCain and Obama have immigration agendas we also know that whoever ends up in the White House will have to deal with a anti immigration Senate and Congress.

The economy may lessen the preassure on the ever increasing level of immigration simply because there will not be any jobs available for the immigrants. The economy may also make Washington more protective of the few jobs still available, jobs that because of the hard times now are desirable for Americans in spite of their low pay and low status.

I invite all of you to share with me your thoughts on the subject. Perhaps you have your own immigration situation you would like to tell us about, and hopefully you might be able to give some advise to others out there in similar situations
