Experience a not-to-be-missed traditional Swedish Crayfish Feast!

ASI’s popular, annual Kräftskiva, or Crayfish Party, serves crayfish family style, outside in the evening Courtyard. Crayfish have been eaten in Sweden since the 16th century, mostly by the aristocracy. Once threatened by overfishing, the season was mostly limited to August. As crayfish rebounded and the once exclusive delicacy became popular with middle classes, the Kräftskiva was born as a national festivity for all, marking the end of summer.

Tradition has it that crayfish are to be eaten outdoors under gaily colored paper lanterns, with bibs and comic paper hats. The little creatures are served with good bread, strong cheese, salads, Swedish paj (similar to quiche) and, of course, aquavit, beer, live music and drinking songs.
