The Artists

The artists Sara Cooper (USA) and Nina Gorfer (Austria) belong to a narrative tradition within photography with roots in 18th and 19th century painting. Their staged photographs hold distinct reference to history, fables and myths that are often realized in close collaboration with the people they portray.

Unlike the discrete passer-by who waits for the decisive moment, Sara Cooper and Nina Gorfer carefully direct their productions, much like painters in a studio. Their images show more than just one objective view of a person. Instead, they depict the intangible life and sentiment prevalent in the moment.

Sara Cooper is a native of the United States. Nina Gorfer is a native Austrian. Both live and work in Göteborg, Sweden.
