The 43rd festival of Nordic cultures is the largest Nordic event held in Southern California, featuring music, dancing, cooking and craft demonstrations, lectures, vendors and activities for families and people of all ages. For one weekend in April, writes the Ventura County Star, “California Lutheran University is transformed into a Scandinavian wonderland.”

Festivalgoers can visit an authentic Viking Village, as well as a Saami sliddastallan, or community gathering. They can try their hand at Dala horse croquet and play an ancient Viking game called kubb. Younger Vikings can also enjoy the Hans Christian Andersen puppet shows at the Children’s Theater or get their “passport” stamped by visiting each Scandinavian country’s booth and making FREE craft souvenirs.

Scandinavian food is always a highlight of ScanFest. Delicious Lefse, “World Famous” Aebelskivers, Viking Dogs and other Scandinavian favorites are available in the food court.
Performances by ABBAFAB, a tribute to the music of ABBA, will headline the main stage each night along with other festival favorites, including the Redwood Middle School Viking Band and various Nordic dance groups.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for teenagers and FREE for children under 12. Admission is also FREE for Cal Lutheran students with a Student ID. This event is produced by the Scandinavian American Cultural and Historical Foundation. For more information, visit scandinavianfest.org or connect with us on Facebook.
