Saturday Art Workshops
Children ages 5+
Saturdays—2 PM
$10 (Free, ASF Members)

Each Saturday afternoon, Scandinavia House presents our Saturday Art Workshops, which invite children to work with Nordic themes in the Halldór Laxness Library.
In October, we are offering workshops in coordination with our exhibition “Light Lines: The Art of Jan Groth, Inger Johanne Grytting, and Thomas Pihl,” which will study texture and abstract expression through various techniques.

Draw the Line
Saturday, October 13 @ 2 PM

Texture is not only something that we can feel by touch, but also something that can be seen. In this drawing workshop, we’ll learn to use pens, pencils, markers and crayons to create texture through patterns large and small, as curious artists learn new creative ways to draw.

Stick and Paint
Saturday, October 20 @ 2 PM

Abstract paintings are sometimes simply made up of color and lines, with no recognizable objects. In this painting workshop children will paint dots and lines, and use “drybrush” stroke techniques (by squeezing paint out of brushes) to lightly create texture with long brushes.

Weaving Wonders
Saturday, October 27 @ 2 PM

Weaving is like painting with yarn—mixing colors is as easy as mixing paint on a palette, and you can also create depth and wonder in a flat surface! In this workshop, kids learn to create weavings with self-made looms using a colorful selection of materials.
