This March, Scandinavia House presents a Virtual Cinema event of the 2019 Lo Dagerman film "The Making of a Man." This program takes place in coordination with the March 9 panel "Masculinity & Culture — The Making of a Man" with writer/filmmaker Lo Dagerman and author Mark Greene.
*Film tickets are $5 (free for ASF Members).*

In her documentary The Making of a Man, filmmaker Lo Dagerman traces her father’s journey in France in the 1940s and interviews the director and cast of the New York production, discovering that the young actor playing the lead in Marty’s Shadow has his own very personal insight into toxic masculinity. Told through dramatization, archival footage and interviews, the film is propelled by the interconnected stories of four young men: the playwright; the refugee who inspires him; the bullied character he creates; and the actor (whose soldier-brother returned broken from Afghanistan) who channels him in the 2017 off-Broadway American premiere. All facing the same challenge: What happens when pressure mounts?

"The film uses Stig’s play as a jump-off point to make the viewer reflect on a wide range of issues like parent and sibling relationships, politics, courage and manliness.”—Stellan Skarsgård
