In celebration of Iceland's 100 years of sovereignty and independence, Scandinavia House is screening a series of documentaries, film features, and shorts by Icelandic filmmakers, including At Noon Fell A Darkness, I Remember You, and The Swan.
In addition, we are hosting daylong film fests, Iceland in New York and Shortfish Film Festival. Below are descriptions of the films and their screening dates, along with the festivals.

AT NOON FELL A DARKNESS
Thurs, SEPTEMBER 20 at 7 PM

At Noon a Darkness Fell profiles 15 prominent Icelandic musicians and poets as they travel home to Reykjavik for Sigur Rós's Norður og Niður festival in the winter of 2017-18. Set in locations from lighthouses to abandoned pools to mountains to volcanic beaches, this documentary captures a unique and contemporary moment in the history of Icelandic art. Following the screening, Icelandic composer Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir performs with very special guests. (Directed by Derrick Belcham)

THE SWAN /Svanurinn

After wayward 9-year-old Sól is caught shoplifting, she is sent to live and work on a farm with distant relatives. Here, nature seems endless, and as Sól strikes up a friendship with the mysterious farmhand Jón she learns to channel her artistic gifts. But when the farmer’s rebellious daughter Ásta returns home, Sól is drawn into a complicated entanglement she can't yet understand. (Directed by Ása Helga Hjörleifsdóttir)

A body found hanging in a church spurs an investigation where multiple crimes are found to be linked to a disappearance in the past. Meanwhile, the psychiatrist assisting on the case is tormented by the long-ago vanishing of his own son; and miles away at an abandoned town in the Westfjords region, a trio renovating an old house are confronted with a supernatural presence. As clues begin to surface, it becomes increasingly clear that their fates are all entwined. (Directed by Oskar Thor Axelsson)

ICELAND IN NEW YORK

Scandinavia House presents screenings of short films by three NYC-based emerging Icelandic filmmakers and ASF Fellows: Thick Skin by Erlendur Sceinsson; See Ya /Sjáumst by Brúsi Ólason; and Splinter by Ninna Pálma. Following the films, they will be joined for a panel discussion with Icelandic filmmakers Kári Úlfsson (ASF Fellow 2018), Davíð Már Stefánsson, and Halla Tryggvadottir.

SHORTFISH FILM FESTIVAL
Fri, OCTOBER 26 at 6:30 PM, free

The short film division of Iceland's Stockfish festival, aptly dubbed Shortfish, focuses on highlighting up-and-coming Icelandic filmmakers. The Shortfish screening will feature six short films: Arnbjörn, C-Vítamín, In The Dark Room, Kalí’s Solitude, That's What Friends Are For, and VAKA.
