Students will braid traditional pewter coiled thread and sew this braid to a reindeer hide strip using acrylic and cotton thread. The Beginning Saami-Inspired Bracelet class will consist of creating a simple double braid bracelet. The techniques used to create these projects will follow the model of an oral tradition passed down over 100 years by the Saami people, the indigenous people of Northern Scandinavia. Students learn by watching and engaging in what is a “living” tradition.
