The rapid warming of the Arctic has elicited enthusiasm as well as concern. While some are excited about the new economic opportunities arising from an ice-free ocean, others are concerned about the environmental impact and the increasing risk of political and military conflict. Compared to many other regions of the world, today’s Arctic stands out as well-ordered and peaceful.

In the lecture professor Peter Arbo will give an assessment of the Arctic governance arrangements and their viability. He will discuss how they have evolved, their strengths and weaknesses, and the extent to which they can be copied and transferred to other regions.
