Sweden’s own Rönninge Show Chorus is the world champion barbershop group — again. The group competed in the Sweet Adelines International's 70th Annual International Competition & Convention in Las Vegas throughout rounds of singing during the week of Oct. 17-22, winning top marks for both musicality and show. With 143 singers on stage, Rönninge Show Chorus (RSC) performed a package of songs from the musical "A Chorus Line." Public support was huge and some of the judges commented that RSC’s effort was "groundbreaking," "stunning" and "in a class by itself."
"It feels great to get such strong reactions. That's exactly why we're doing this sport. We want to touch the audience and make them feel,” said choir founder and co-conductor Britt-Helene Bonnedahl.
Each choir is assessed on four categories: music, sound, expression and showmanship. The judges gave Rönninge Show Chorus 3098 points out of a possible 3200. RSC wasn’t the only Swedish group to impress, either: In the Harmony Classic competition for medium sized choruses (between 31 and 60 singers), the Helsingborg Pearls of the Sound Chorus won gold.

Members from several areas of Sweden
RSC was founded as a female barbershop group in 1983 in Rönninge, Sweden near Stockholm. With over 155 active members between the ages of 19-80, this is the 10th time that Rönninge Show Chorus has competed internationally in the United States. Since they won the World Championships in Hawaii in 2014 with the highest ever score, the interest to seek membership increased. Today RSC choir members come from Stockholm, Västerås, Nyköping, Eskilstuna, Uppsala and Göteborg. www.ronningeshow.com
RSC is a member of Sweet Adelines International (SAI), whose focus is to promote the art form of women's four-part a cappella singing in the barbershop tradition. Since its inception in 1945, the SAI has become one of the world's largest organizations for female vocals, with 500 choirs on five continents and 23,000 members.
