Camilla and Her Sisters had the audience "All Shook Up" with Elvis songs sung in Swedish during their performance at the Swedish Church in Florida’s fundraising event on March 7, 2014. The band of Swedish women, alongside the Swedish Choir and director Nils-Petter Ankarblom, took the stage and had the audience on their feet as the blond quintet belted out these well-loved tunes.
Between songs, Camilla Fritzen and her bandmates, Maria Olsson, Lisa Bodelius, Josefin Berge and Sanna Andersson, charmed the audience with their stories and jokes about how they became "sisters" after each of their mothers fell in love with Elvis and had magical summer romances with the King of Rock and Roll.
Sharing their mothers’ love for the King, the group has used their passion for his music to translate his lyrics from English into Swedish. They have taken songs from "Love Me Tender" ("Älska mig") to "A Little Less Conversation" ("Leverera") to the "Devil in Disguise" ("Psykopat"), and reworked the Swedish lyrics to fit Elvis’ rock and roll rhythm and preserve his signature mood. This clever writing combined with brilliant showmanship and strong voices had the audience smiling and laughing as the energy boomed through the night.
This talented group of women was the heart of one of the church’s most important annual fundraising events. This event is held each year as a way to show appreciation for the generosity of the church’s angel investors who each donate $250 or more. Donations are essential to keeping the church thriving and growing and strengthening the vibrant sense of Scandinavian community in southern Florida.
This and other events could not happen without the generous contributions of the angel investors and all members of the church. We would like to thank you for your support.
We hope to see you, your family, and your friends throughout the year at the church’s many events. To find out more about events and services, check out:
