Swedish film selected for the Oscars
Since winning the Golden Palm in Cannes The Square has won numerous prizes around the world, including six European Film Awards in December. It recently became the Golden Globe nominee and several of the film's nominations and prizes come from just American film critics organizations. Ruben Ístlund's latest movie is now among the five selected to compete about Best Foreign Film at the Oscars.

This is Ruben Ístlund's first Oscars nomination. He recently won a Golden Beetle (Guldbagge = Sweden's Oscar equivalent) for Best Direction and Fredrik Wenzel who filmedThe Square won for Best Cinematography.

This is the second consecutive year a Swedish movie has been elected. Last year's blockbuster, A Man Called Ove, directed by Hannes Holm and based on the bestselling book with the same name was last year's contender.
