The SWEA NJ Scholarship

Artists, academics, professionals; qualified individuals may apply for the SWEA NJ scholarship. 

  • Mattias Jacobsson, one of Sweden’s most prominent classical guitarists was a recipient of the SWEA NJ scholarship in the spring of 2013. Here he performs at the annual “Sillsexan” event in June 2014.
  • Applications for the SWEA New Jersey scholarship are now accepted from qualified individuals preferably with roots and/or current residence in New Jersey or the Tri-State area pursuing academic or professional research/ studies or artistic endeavors pertaining to Sweden. Members of SWEA and their immediate family are not eligible to apply. The area of research/study may include, but is not limited to, Swedish culture, history, music, visual or performing arts, literature, media, science or the environment.

  • The recipient or recipients will be selected at the discretion of the Board of SWEA New Jersey, by recommendation from the Scholarship Committee. After finishing their project, the recipient or recipients are required to provide a report to SWEA New Jersey, or when appropriate, to make a presentation to the membership on how the scholarship has been used. The projects of recent scholarship recipients have been in the fields of psychology, design, music, and eco technology.
    The scholarship amounts to a total of $6,000 per year, and can be awarded in whole or in part, two times annually.

  • Deadlines for applications are:

    - Oct 1, 2014 (scholarship will be awarded in December)
    - May 1, 2015 (scholarship will be awarded in June)
