Crayfish in New York

There are still a couple of venues where the Swedish cooked crustacean can be enjoyed.

  • This delicious creature was "fished" from the invitation to the popular SWEA Crayfish party on Sept. 15 at Battery Gardens.
  • If you're in New York in September and longing for the Swedish dill cooked delicacy you have a couple of options.

  • SWEA New York has its traditional crayfish party at Battery Gardens Restaurant with a magnificent view of the Upper Bay and Statue of Liberty on Sept. 15. $90 pp. Register at sweanyprogram@gmail.com

  • Three days later it's time for the annual SACC New York Cryafish Dinner dance at the New York Yacht Club. This event will set you back $275 but is sure to be a memory for the cold months to come. Register at www.saccny.org

  • If you'd rather enjoy your crayfish in a quieter way than the regular Swedish "Kräftskiva," Restaurant Aquavit celebrates Crayfish Festival between Aug. 17 and Sept. 11. Three-course lunch menu beginning with 1/2 lb of Swedish cooked crayfish followed by Swedish meatballs or Scandinavian Bouillabaise and dessert, $52 pp. www.aquavit.org

  • Further west and near Chicago? SACC Chicago with SACC Young Professionals have their party on Sept. 12 at the Sheridan Shore Yacht Club in Wilmette. $85 pp for members, $100 for non-members. There may be a few tickets left, call (312) 257-3002 or see www.sacc-chicago.org
