  • Last year marked the 10th anniversary of New York City’s Scandinavian American Theater Company, SATC. It began in 2008 with a series of staged readings at Scandinavia House and a highly acclaimed production of August Strindberg’s “Miss Julie,” also performed at Scandinavia House.

  • Since its creation 10 years ago by a group of seven talented and driven performing artists and directors, the company has produced readings and plays from every corner of Scandinavia. Two of the original members, Albert Bendix and Henning Hegland, remain active while the rest of the group has changed and expanded, mirroring life in and of the city itself.

  • To celebrate 10 years, an anniversary benefit luncheon was held at Manhattan’s Midtown Papillon Bistro & Bar on December 8. The event also recognized two Scandinavian artists who through exceptional work made significant contributions to strengthen the cultural relationship among the Nordic countries: The inaugural Nordic Award 2018 recipients were Danish actor, producer, screenwriter and playwright Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) for his contribution to film and television, and Sweden’s Lena Endre (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) for her work as an actor and director in film, television and theater.

  • The non-profit theater company SATC was founded in 2008 to provide Scandinavian perspectives through the new generation of Nordic playwrights and theater artists. The company presents contemporary plays and inventive takes on the classics from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
