Consumer demand for the local, the organic and pure continues to rise in Sweden.
Over the last three years, Sweden’s consumption of organic food has increased threefold. A nearly SEK 30 billion ($3 billion) increase is expected this year as the steep consumer demand continues to rise and the powerful growth in the industry has the government encouraging more Swedish farmers to go organic. It is no longer a trend, it’s a breakthrough and those who start it rarely turn back. "Organic has become a necessity for many groups,” says Ekoweb chief analyst Cecilia Ryegård. And it's not only true in Sweden; there is a worldwide shift, but Sweden is the second most eco-conscious food buying country in the world, according Ekoweb. From milk and bananas to meat and wine, only Denmark chooses more organic food than Sweden.
