  • And... in the U.S., we're still eating 'lutfisk'
not daily but every so often. The wind lifted the musical notes of folk tunes and songs in and around the 700 guests at the fourth annual Nordic Music Festival held in Chanhassen, MN in early September. Featured performers from Norway included Vidar Skrede from Rogaland with Eric Segnitz of Milwaukee. Minnesota-based groups sang and played tunes for dancing. There were children and youth dancers, Viking demonstrations, and fiddlers and button box accordion players treating the audiences to Danish, Swedish and Norwegian tunes. Crafters and food vendors sold their wares.
The day came to a conclusion with the lutfisk toss competition, in which the Norwegian and Swedish teams attempted to best each other. Once again the Norwegians won, receiving prizes and accolades for their skills. Next year’s event is scheduled for September 7, again in a western suburb of Minneapolis.
