First Scandinavian Summer Fest

Norway Day and Svenskarnas Dag join together to bring the best of both traditions.

  • First Scandinavian Summer Fest in Minneapolis
Join the first annual Scandinavian Summer Fest. Norway Day and Svenskarnas Dag have a long tradition — over 80 years — of holding separate events, but this year on Sunday, June 28, these two groups are working together to bring the best of both and make an even bigger and better ethnic celebration for the Norwegians, Swedes and the Scandinavian community.

  • The day begins with an 11 a.m. Norwegian/Swedish worship service led by Pastor Kristin Sundt from Mindekirken (the Norwegian Memorial Church), and Pastor Antonio Spargo will preach. Then there will be Barnetog (Children's parade), dancing around the Midsommarstång (Midsummer pole) led by Elise Peters and the ASI Spelmanslag, and the afternoon program culminates with the crowning of Miss Svenskarnas Dag 2015. In addition, delightful and authentic Scandinavian foods, vendors, demonstrators, exhibitors and handicrafts make for a family-friendly event with activities and fun for all ages!

  • Entertainment includes Norwegian and Swedish performing groups, Leroy Larson and the Minnesota Scandinavian Ensemble, ASI and St.Paul Swedish Male Choruses, Norwegian Glee Club, Daughters of Norway Chorus, Svenskarnas Dag Girls Choir, Vasa Jr. Folk Dancers, Twin Cities Swedish Folk Dancers and the Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers.

  • Free Admission.
