Make a birch bark necklace - a completely unique, locally sourced, handmade item. Learn the history and ecology of birch trees and discuss sustainable harvesting practices, then spend the rest of the day splitting bark and learning how to make three-fold, four-fold and cube style birch bark beads. After creating a few dozen bark beads, combine them with colorful glass beads to string together a beautiful (and hard wearing) birch bark necklace.
