Greece and Turkey are still popular vacation destinations for Swedes, but it is the U.S. in general and the Big Apple, New York City, in particular that are mostly favored.
America is the fourth most popular destination country for vacationing Swedes, most probably because of the cheap dollar.
This in turn has led to a 70 percent increase in the booking of trips to New York, which has now surpassed Barcelona as the most popular big city for Swedes on holiday.
“Big city vacationing has increased a lot, we saw that already last year,” says Martin Durnik, marketing executive at Ticket, the traveling agency. “And New York is extremely popular right now.”
Most Swedes come to New York for the shopping, especially for clothes and electronics. For political reasons, vacation destinations such as Tunisia and Egypt have decreased.
