Chris O’Neill’s debut

  • "Happy Birthday Dear Sister!!!! We are all looking forward to celebrating the Victoria Day this evening." (In Swedish: "Grattis på födelsedagen kära syster!!!! Vi ser alla fram emot att fira Victoriadagen i kväll.) This is what Princess Madeleine wrote on her official Facebook page. Victoria was the person celebrated on July 14 (her birthday), but most Swedes’ eyes were almost certainly on Chris O’Neill, Princess Madeleine’s new husband – the participation at the annual Victoriadagen on Öland was his royal debut. Princess Madeleine congratulated her sister, Crown Princess Victoria, on her birthday via Facebook. Meanwhile, it was also Madeleine's husband Chris O’Neill’s turn to make his royal debut on Victoria’s birthday, which was celebrated as per usual on Öland during the Victoriadagen. Victoria herself arrived in a horse-drawn carriage to Borgholm’s sports field. Her daughter Estelle charmed everyone by blowing soap bubbles, but was a bit too young to be able to come along to all the activities of the evening. During much of the celebration at the sports field, Chris O’Neill could be seen whispering and smiling at his new wife Madeleine. Host was the popular Mark Levengood, who joked with Chris O’Neill during the American’s first Victoria-celebrations. Levengood welcomed Chris to Sweden and Öland but warned him that it might rain. He also told about the year the King had to cover himself in a black garbage bag (because of the weather), and hoped no garbage bags were needed today. O’Neill seemed to appreciate the joke.
