Nobel Peace Prize for Snowden?

The NSA whistleblower Snowden, in many eyes a traitor to his country, has been nominated by two Norwegian politicians.

  • The American National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden, now a recipient of the Right Livelihood Honorary Prize, was earlier nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by two Norwegian politicians.
  • Two politicians from Norwegian Sosialistisk Venstreparti have nominated the American National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden for the Nobel Peace Prize. The politicians believe that the official debate and the political change that has taken place as a result of Snowden’s revelations have contributed to a more stable and peaceful world.
The deadline for nominating candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize expires February first. Who is allowed to nominate a candidate? Well, you’ve got to be a Nobel laureate, a parliamentarian, a government official or a university professor (in certain subjects). The Peace Prize is the only Nobel Prize not decided or awarded in Sweden, but in neighboring Norway.
