Every year since 1997, eligible actors are presented in different contexts at the Berlin Film Festival to highlight European acting and to make new international contacts. This year the international jury of the European Film Promotion (EFP) has selected Swedish actress Karin Franz Körlof as one of 10 Shooting Stars.
Karin Franz Körlof is a 2015 graduate of Stockholm's Academy of Dramatic Arts. Prior to graduation she had already appeared in various films, television productions and plays, such as Blue Eyes, Juice Bar and Wallander: Betrayal. She has also directed three short films and wrote and recorded the monologue show Barbie Nazi.
Karin got her big break in portraying Lydia in Pernilla August's The Serious Game (Den Allvarsamma Leken) which premiered in Berlin earlier this year. She currently has the lead role in Olof Spaak's new movie Trädgårdsgatan. She is also filming Björn Runge's upcoming film The Wife in Scotland.

Versatility, drive and courage ..."
The jury's reason for the choice of Karin Franz Körlof as 2017 European Shooting Star reads: "Significant tension of the good, even sensuous kind, is clearly felt in her aura and her firm gaze. Karin demonstrates versatility, drive, composition and courage, also when taking the darker emotional paths of the story at hand."
“I'm really happy," said Karin. "Berlin is a fantastic film festival and it is a privilege to visit the festival for the third year in a row, now as a Shooting Star. In addition to exciting encounters with the international industry I hope to get the opportunity to see lots of great movies. I eagerly await the program, I’m hopefully joined by some Swedish filmmakers as well,” she added.
Previous Swedish Shooting Stars include names such as Alicia Vikander, Bill Skarsgård, Edda Magnason, Nermina Lukac, Gustaf Skarsgård and Tuva Novotny.
