Democracy not so important for young

The things we take for granted: democracy is not too important to young Swedes today.

  • Democracy not so important for young.
The new World Values Study reveals that democracy is not too important to young Swedes today. More than one of four (26%) believes it would be “good or quite good” if Sweden were undemocratic and ruled by a strong, dictatorial leader. The study polled 1208 randomly picked Swedish citizens, and it also shows that young Swedes are willing to sell their democratic freedom and rights. All of 21% among the 18-29 year olds say they are willing to change party affiliation for a smaller amount of money. The news is particularly worrisome, as people in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Libya and Syria fight and die for the right to vote and for democracy.
