Wildfire raging in Sweden

So far no main municipalities have been affected but the burning area covers over 100,000 acres

  • An extensibe forest fire has raged Sweden’s countryside since last Thursday in Västmanland, northwest of Stockholm. The burning area covers over 100,000 acres as of Tuesday, August 5. One person has died, one person has been hospitalized and 1,300 people have so far been evacuated. Several roads have been closed for traffic since the windy, dry and warm weather contributed to the spread of the fire. All train traffic going north from Västerås towards Dalarna and the cities Ludvika, Fagersta, Avesta has been stopped. French water bombing planes landed in Västerås on August 5 and another two planes from Italy are expected on August 6.
