Hello, my name is Bodil Eriksson and I’ve recently joined Volvo Cars of North America as executive vice president, marketing, brand and communications from our headquarters in Göteborg. Now that I’m here in the states, I’ve crossed paths with many Swedish-Americans (which is always nice!), who have long been some of our most avid supporters. What I discovered, though, was that even this loyal group was unaware of Volvo’s exciting plans for the future.
This personal letter is my way of changing that — starting with YOU.
After reading this note and my subsequent updates, I know you’ll agree with me that the “Volvo Transformation” story is a story worth telling. It’s a captivating tale of belief in human values, in industry perseverance, and in the strength and ingenuity of Swedish engineering. After talking to our friends at Nordstjernan, they strongly agree and are helping us present Volvo’s Transformation story to you.
We want you to know that this classic Swedish car make is on the right path, committed to the same goals it’s kept since the first Volvo saw the light of day, only better and stronger than ever before. So, in a series of update over the next few months, we’ll detail brand and product innovations that will give you a sense of what Volvo is today and where we’re going. We’ll provide detail on subjects including our new Drive-E powertrains, autonomous driving tests in Göteborg and Volvo’s take on Scandinavian design, the environment and safety in the 21st century. Finally, we’ll tell you about the launch of the all-new Volvo XC90 in just under a year.

It’s a compelling story. During the financial crisis in both the U.S. and Europe, we worked through our sale from Ford to our new parent company, Zhejiang Geely Holdings — and have come through it poised to do battle with the world’s best carmakers.
Zhejiang Geely Holdings has invested $11 billion in Volvo and the results are just beginning to emerge. In May 2013, Volvo unveiled the largest line-up refresh in our history. In the first quarter of 2014, we launched the new 2015 Volvos — including the New V60 with our all-new Drive E powertrain. Early next year, our all-new SPA modular platform is launched and the brand new XC90 comes to life. Finally, new production facilities in China to maximize the potential of the Chinese auto market (now the world’s largest), provide the ability to grow our business and make better and more cars than ever before. Our cars continue to be engineered, designed, developed and built in Sweden as well as China, only better and for many more people to enjoy.
We are certain that once you’ve heard the Volvo Transformation story, you’ll feel just as proud as I am of our quintessential Swedish brand, recognized globally since 1927 for its Swedish legacy and human-centric focus. It really began with our founders, Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larson, who emphasized that “everything we do must start with people.”
This is why Volvo Cars truly are — and always will be — “Designed Around You.”

Med vänliga hälsningar (All the best)
