  • One of Europe's largest land-based wind farms, Arise Windpower AB, has negotiated with local residents to pay compensation for the disturbance the wind turbines cause. Sixty turbines power more than 100,000 homes in the municipality of Ockelbo.

  • Despite the benefits of this type of clean energy, residents feel the negative effects of wind farms deserve compensation. Citing noise, obstruction of views and restrictions on hunting and other wildlife sports, people in Jädraås have won the right to be compensated for the next 25 years. The money will come from a wind power fund that has been set up based on the amount of electricity produced on an annual basis.
