Saving on smart grids

A consortium of Swedish companies are testing if real-time information saves energy.

  • Smart grids, renewable energy resources and an innovative service enablement platform are being used to develop smart-energy homes in Stockholm, Sweden, where users can interactively influence their energy consumption.
  • A consortium of Swedish companies have created a smart grid for 155 families in an effort to test if behavior about in-the-moment electricity use can alter people’s energy consumption.

  • Part of the Stockholm Royal Seaport Smart Energy City project, the consortium hopes to gain a better understanding of how people interact with technology and how that can inform businesses to create better products and solutions for environmental sustainability.

  • The partners include Ericsson, the Swedish Energy Agency, Fortum, ABB, Electrolux, Ellevio and KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology.
