Hanna Öberg won her first-ever IBU World Championship Gold medal in the 15K Individual race on March 12. Swedish biathlon athletes have been successful over the years. And between March 7 and March 17, the Swedish team compete on their home turf at the World Biathlon Championships in Östersund, Sweden - VM I Skidskytte. NBCSN, Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA, NBCSports.com, the NBC Sports app, OlympicChannel.com and the Olympic Channel app. reports from the competition in central Sweden.

Looking back, and among the women Magdalena Forsberg stands out with 13 world championship medals, three Olympic bronze medals and several World Cup wins between 1996 and 2002. She was also awarded the so-called Jerring-priset four times. Hanna Öberg, this year’s recipient of Jerringpriset (named for Swedish radio personality Sven Jerring and really the people’s award since it’s voted for by the radio audience) won gold in the 15k biathlon race at the 2018 Olympics.

The Swedish men’s team also took home a gold medal in their relay, the women's team silver in their relay in Pyeongchang. The men’s team was subsequently recognized at the Swedish Sports Award, with the relay team—Sebastian Samuelsson, Peppe Femling, Jesper Nelin and Fredrik Lindström—being named Team of the Year. We might see them again come March and the World Championships.

The composition of the U.S. national team has yet to be decided but Susan Dunklee and Sean Doherty are likely participating, and if the beginning is a promising start for the U.S. team, there will be coverage on U.S. television from Östersund in Jämtland province where this year’s World Championships are held.
