Europe’s most prestigious innovation prize, the European Inventor Award, will be presented in five categories on May 19 in Budapest, Hungary, and among the nominees in the category “Lifetime achievement” is Swedish inventor Per-Ingvar Brånemark. Brånemark is one of the pioneers of osseonintegration, a now widely practiced form of dental treatment based on titanium implants, which creates a stable connection between the implant and the living bone. "The nominations for the European Inventor Award 2011 are a positive proof that European enterprises can hold their own with cutting-edge products in a wide range of fields," says European Patent Office’s President Benoît Battistelli. Brånemark, who was born in 1929, is an orthopedic surgeon and research professor, touted as the "father of modern dental implantology." The Brånemark Osseointegration Center (BOC), named after its founder, was founded in 1989 in Göteborg. More info, see European Inventor Award 2011
