  • Princess Madeleine reveals baby's gender
It is Princess Madeleine herself who reveals that the baby she’s expecting is a girl. She (and her husband Chris O’Neill) is doing so on a commercial baby registry website, where the birth date is set to be February 25. On her wishlist for the babyshower on myregister.com, Madeleine has, among other items, put two Bugaboo Cameleon strollers (all black, at a combined price of $1,060) and a 4Moms Infant Tub ($49).

  • What to buy a princess? Well, if the present is for Swedish Princess Madeleine, a Bugaboo Cameleon stroller is a great tip, as that’s what she has registered for at a baby registry. Color? Black, of course.
  • New book about Prince Carl Philip
Poor Prince Carl Philip has not had an easy time lately, since it was discovered that he was not the person who designed the the cast iron fire screen portraying the Tre Kronor castle, and which is produced by Svenskt Tenn (see more here: http://www.nordstjernan.com/news/briefs/2058/). In reality it was designer Eric Ericson, and the prince, at least according to Ericson, showed only a mild interest as he somewhat participated in the design process. So if he’s not really a designer, what is the prince? What does he do? What’s he like? In April next year, daily Expressen’s royal reporter Johan T Lindwall will hopefully answer some of the questions we have regarding Carl Philip in his book: ”Carl Philip – prinsen som inte fick bli kung” (Carl Philip – the prince who wasn’t allowed to become king). The book will be published by Forum förlag, and it is the third in Lindwall’s series about the royal children. He has also written ”Victoria – prinsessan privat” (which was later reworked as ”Victoria – prinsessa och mamma”) and ”Madeleine – prinsessan privat”.

  • Kingdom of Crystal gets money
'Glasriket' or the Kingdom of Crystal, a geographical area of Sweden heavy with glassworks, is about to receive 12 million SEK (or $1.8 million) in order to invest in growth companies. ”The background is the mandate from the government to work with development in ’glasriket’,” says Helena Nilsson at the Regional Development Council in Kalmar. Several glassworks have struggled with declining sales, the new money will help them transition into the business world. 6 million SEK ($922,000) comes from Tillväxverket (the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth), 3 million SEK ($460,000) each comes from Kronberg’s county administrative board, and the Regional Development Council in Kalmar.

  • The Oresund Bridge between Denmark and Sweden is profitable.
The bridge spanning Oresund grossed 54 percent more during the third quarter this year compared to the same period last year. While the number of people commuting across the bridge in cars has decreased this year with 7%, the number of trucks crossing has increased with 5%. 53% of the Swedish truck traffic goes over the bridge. Increased sales of the so-called Bro pass, also contributes to the Öresund Bridge Consortium’s quarterly results.
