Midwest Midsommar

Viking games, meatballs, frog dance and flowers and more flowers ... a time to celebrate, a time to rejoice.

  • Does it get any better?
  • Eagle, WI — Scandinavians of all sorts celebrated Midsummer at one point or another during the day on June 21 after the Swedes got the party started by decorating and raising the maypole on the visitors’ green at Old World Wisconsin. The Swedish American Historical Society of WI sponsored another year of making flower crowns, singing and dancing (like frogs, flutists, Andersson and Petersson) around the maypole, learning to play kubb and dining on Swedish meatballs served at the barn or picnicking on potatis, herring, cheeses and strawberries. This is what it's all about - Swedish Midsummer 101
