Midsummer in Scandia

The annual Midsommar celebration at Gammelgården Museum in Scandia, Minnesota on June 24 ended up indoors.

  • Kubb players enjoyed several games before the rain fell on the celebration in Scandia.
  • A clear and glorious morning took a turn toward the dark side, which meant the afternoon Midsummer festivities had to move indoors. While guests sang and danced the song games traditionally enjoyed around the maypole, everyone had to imagine the leafy green structure, since it remained outdoors in the elements. Rain did nothing to dampen spirits, however, and a full complement of folks from Sweden and around the region enjoyed their time together. A group of educators from Borås took in the celebration as part of their tour to learn more about Swedish immigration to America.

  • Crafts were a fun activity in the upstairs exhibit room at Gammelgården. A spinner and weaver were also demonstrating during the day.
