On Walpurgis Day & Vappu on May 1, join us to welcome in the spring with a special celebration of the iconic Swedish author Elsa Beskow!
Special guest Ingrid Kullberg-Bendz (Scandinavian American Theater Company) will introduce Beskows world of beautiful illustrations and childrens literature, which Swedish children have grown up with for over 100 years, and have since made the author known internationally as the Beatrix Potter of Sweden.
As a young child Beskow would spend hours drawing trees and flowers in spring and summer, gaining a wide knowledge of plants and flowers that she later carried through to her illustrations, while retaining a childs pure and wondrous view of nature.
She has long been celebrated at the Childrens Center, including in the 2011 exhibition A Childs Adventure in the Swedish Countryside: A Storybook Installation.
Ingrid Kullberg-Bendz will introduce her work with examples of illustrations, followed by a virtual art workshop based on Beskows literature!
The video will premiere at 11 AM ET on May 1 on the event page and via YouTube and Facebook.
