'Bron' TV series adapted for the U.S.

A different bridge albeit with a similar plot brings a Scandinavian TV-series to the US through FX.

  • “Bron” starring Sofia Helin and Kim Bodnia, will be adapted for the American audience in a TV-series called “The Bridge”. Above: Actors Helin and Bodnia in front of the Öresund Bridge.
  • The American TV channel FX has placed an order for its next drama series pilot, “The Bridge” based on the Danish-Swedish hit series “Bron”, which is a crime series co-produced by Danmarks Radio and Sveriges Television. The series follows a police investigation following the discovery of a dead body on the bridge connecting Denmark and Sweden. The series was first broadcast on DR1 and SVT1 during the fall of 2011, and it stars Swedish actress Sofia Helin and Danish actor Kim Bodnia. In the American version, the series will center on two detectives from the United States and Mexico, who must work together to hunt down a serial killer operating on both sides of the border after a dead body is found on the bridge connecting El Paso and Juarez. Says John Landgraf, President and General Manager at FX Networks: "We really loved the Scandinavian drama and Meredith Stiehm and Elwood Reid’s script adaption is very compelling and true to its progenitor. This show will introduce two distinctive and truly great characters to American audiences in Sonya North and Marco Ruiz, an American and a Mexican cop whose shotgun partnership leads them on a vast, complicated personal and professional journey. We believe setting this series in the US and the Mexican border cities of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez will make the American adaptation both riveting and relevant.” The successful Swedish-Danish series will also be made into a French-English version called “The Tunnel”, where the action will take place in the tunnel connecting those two countries under the English channel.
