Excitement in Seattle

Excitement builds in anticipation of the opening of Seattle's new Nordic Museum in May.

  • Eric Nelson, a happy and proud CEO at the Nordic Museum as we met in September. Photographed on one of the, at the time yet to be finished, stairways to the second floor of the new building.
  • The Nordic Heritage Museum is moving into its new space, which opens in May, 2018. The newly branded Nordic Museum is, however, already making international lists for being exceptional: Architectural Digest included it on its list of the “15 Most Noteworthy Museum Openings Worldwide;” the New York Times features it among “52 Places to go in 2018;” and Artnet (the leading online resource for the international art market and the destination to buy, sell and research art online) posted its Complete Guide to the Biggest, Baddest, Boldest Museum Openings in 2018, listing the new Nordic Museum at #3 on its list of eight international museum openings.

  • This is what we found at our visit to the new Nordic Museum in September, 2017. Now things are being moved in and getting ready for the May 2018 opening.
  • The museum will move into the new, modern 57,000-square-foot cultural center in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood this spring, with special events and its grand opening set for May 5, 2018.
