Melinda Gates, the wife of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and the co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is open about her appreciation of Sweden for many reasons. The busy American and her husband enjoy travel in Sweden for both pleasure and business, most recently to discuss a partnership in efforts to educate women on health and family planning, the empowerment of women and helping disadvantaged people around the world through her poverty fighting foundation. Gates works closely with Sweden on her developmental aid program and in Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, which makes sure children in the poorest countries get the same life-saving vaccines that children get in Sweden and the U.S. "Our foundation has a great relationship with Sweden. One of the most important goals we share is investing in global health, particularly the health of mothers and children globally. That focus is paying off. These statistics translate into literally tens of millions of human lives saved, and for millions more, the opportunity to lead a healthy, productive life.
