  • Triple gold for Sweden. May 4th 1991, a day for Tre Kronor (Three Crowns) if ever there was one. On that day, Sweden took gold in table tennis, ice hockey, and popular music (Eurovision Song Contest). Above: “Tre Kronor” the national emblem of Sweden, present also in the Coat of Arms of the Realm of Sweden.
  • May 4 in Swedish History
    1991: A day of triple victories for Sweden. Tabletennis players Peter Karlsson and Thomas von Scheele win gold medals in Chiba, Japan during the 1991 World Table Tennis Championships. Sweden also takes home the gold medal in the 1991 Men’s World Ice Hockey Championships, which takes place in Finland. The day is topped off with singer Carola Häggkvist winning the 1991 Eurovision Song Contest in Rome with the song “Fångad av en stormvind” (“Captured by a love storm”) Fångad av en Stormvind, Carola 1991. In the streets back in Sweden, people are dancing and cheering.
