'Prao,' earlier known as 'Pryo' returns

Internships as part of the curriculum in lower schools in Sweden is suggested to be reintroduced.

  • 'Prao,' earlier known as 'Pryo' returns
Swedish government wants to re-introduce internships: Internships, or “prao”, were once part of the standard curriculum across Swedish schools but when work environment regulations regarding student safety became an issue, many schools felt unable to meet what they regarded as impossible demands.

  • Eventually, this staple of Swedish education, where students were able to “try on” different jobs before deciding on their professional future, fell to the wayside. It became up to individual schools to organize any internships it might find with Swedish companies.

  • Now, a new proposal is set by the government to make it mandatory that all students have the chance to intern at least ten days before they graduate. If approved, the new rules will become effective July 1, 2018.
