A Swedish app saves bees with AI

Known as Colony Collapse Disorder, honeybees have mysteriously disappeared across the planet in recent years.

  • The AI-powere app, BeeScanning can identify the presence of Varroa mites on individual bees in a beehive.
  • The plight of bees is something many people around the world are concerned about as over 40 colonies of bees have disappeared in the United States alone. Part of the problem are new pesticides, which could be easily controlled and another, the Varroa mites.

  • Enter Swedish beekeeper and developer, Björn Lagerman, who has created a way to monitor the plight of bee colonies using artificial intelligence.

  • The AI-powered app, called, BeeScanning, takes images of beehives and scans them for the presence of mites, which are detrimental to bee development, allowing beekeepers to treat hives and preserve them.
