Swelling overnights in Sweden

Foreigners stayed overnight in Swedish facilities 3.3 percent more during 2009 than the previous year.  

  • Foreigners stayed overnight in Swedish facilities 3.3 percent more during 2009 than in 2008, while travel to and within the EU dropped by over 5 percent. Tourists and visitors from abroad contributed to record volumes in Sweden, although the hikes were mainly at less expensive places like campsites (6.1 percent) and private homes (4.4 percent). Hotel occupancy remained about the same as the previous year, but private rooms dropped by 3 percent and total accommodation revenues decreased by almost 5.2 percent.
