'Absolut Sverige' - Sweden through the eyes of a Dane. Royal family from Libya seeks asylum in Sweden. Princess Madeleine’s date at Le Pain Quotidien.

  • Sweden through the eyes of a Dane
Danish journalist Mikael Jalving traveled through Sweden and some of the questions he asks about the very different society he met, he published in his book “Absolut Sverige. En rejse i tavshedens rige” (Absolut Sweden. A journey in the kingdom of silence). Jalving’s judgement of Sweden and the Swedes is a stiff one. He reads books about Sweden, he looks at the Swedish history, he talks to scientist and journalists, and he follows debates left and right. The quarrels he encounters are ones he is not used to from Denmark: atheists against believers, monarchists against republicans, feminists against gossip media. What Jalving is after the most is a fierce debate about the Swedish immigrant policy – he finds none. He is himself employed by Jyllands-Posten, the conservative Danish newspaper that published the Mohammed caricatures. Sweden is, according to Jalving, disappearing behind veils, Malmö is getting darker and the imams are just waiting for the right moment to take over the country. The Swedes themselves seem to not care. “The Sweden we knew just a few years ago is today only a memory, a fairy tale,” is his conclusion. “The result is extreme. The rest is silence.”

  • Royal family from Libya seeks asylum in Sweden
Heirs of the deposed royal family in Libya are seeking asylum in Sweden. They are currently living in an apartment in the small village of Totebo, in the south of Sweden. Prince Al Zouber Al Senussi, whose aunt was married to the last Libyan king, managed to flee with his family shortly before the revolt in February and came to Sweden via Turkey. "This is the place where we can feel safe," said his wife Sohere. The royal family Senussi was overthrown by Gaddafi in 1969.

  • Madde’s date at Le Pain Quotidien
Look at Princess Madeleine having a romantic brunch at a Le Pain Quotidien in New York with new boyfriend, American financier Chris O’Neill. Last time we saw the couple in the press, was at one of their – presumably – first dates at the exclusive Boathouse in Central Park, New York. This particular Pain Quotidien isn’t too far away from O’Neill’s apartment. It looks like he has captured Madeleine’s heart, but he has to also capture the hearts of Queen Silvia and King Carl XVI Gustaf (both of whom have booked a trip to New York in April to meet Madeleine’s new beau). If you’re in the big apple yourself, or planning a trip there, you might want to check out these places yourself.
