  • Assange request denied
Australian WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's latest request to dismiss an arrest warrant for alleged rape and molestation was denied by the Swedish Court of Appeals on Nov. 20. The courts fear Assange, 43, would evade legal proceedings if the warrant is lifted. He has been living in London's Ecuadorian Embassy for more than two years to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he is accused of having raped one woman and sexually molested another. Assange denies the allegations and worries Sweden would extradite him to the United States, where he could face the death penalty if he is charged and convicted of publishing government secrets through WikiLeaks. His lawyer stated that Assange now plans to take the case to Sweden's Supreme Court.

He was about to enter his third season in the NBA with the Charlotte Hornets but faces 18 months under surveillance in Sweden and 26 months in a rehabilitation program; the NBA and the Charlotte organization have yet to hand down their official punishment.
